The Green Frankfurt

Besides the hustle and bustle of the city, it is also important to escape the city's once in a while and to enjoy the beautiful nature around and in Frankfurt.

Green Belt of Frankfurt

Frankfurt is surrounded by a park called the green belt. With its 70 km the Green Belt offers you enough space and possibilities to enjoy the green and the fresh air.

Here you can cycle or hike along meadows and floodplains, through forests and past sights.

To give you an example: Here in the green belt are 7 greenhouses, each illuminated in a different shade of green. These stand for the culinary and Hessian speciality - the green sauce. The greenhouses are thus also Germany's first monument to a national dish. The green sauce is traditionally served cold with boiled potatoes and hard-boiled eggs.

Palm Garden Frankfurt

Frankfurt's most famous green oasis is the Palmgarten in the middle of the city. With its approx. 20 ha and the many different greenhouses it offers you a breathtaking variety of plants and flowers from all climatic zones of the world. Some of the Plamen are even over 100 years old.

The Palmengarten was opened in 1871 because many topical plants of Duke Adolf von Nassau had to find a new home. Since then, the palm garden has been continually expanded with new plants.

Various animal breeds have also found a quiet place in the Palmengarten in the fast-paced city and the large pond is the only city water in Frankfurt on which you can go for a boat ride.

You can also take the Palmen-Express through the park from April to October. On Sundays there are always free early morning meals on different topics of flora and fauna.

Frankfurt Zoo

Go on a city safari at Frankfurt Zoo and discover a total of 4,500 animals from 450 different species on approx. 11 hectares.

The 1.5 ton Petra (hippo) and the 5.5 meter Hatari (giraffe) will look forward to your visit.
